"Update: On Thursday night, the Los Angeles Police Department has closed the case and met with the alleged victim, according to Commander Andrew Smith. On Friday morning, The Church of Scientology issued the following statement: "The Los Angeles Police Department has already stated that the case is closed and that the report filed by Leah Remini was unfounded. This ill-advised, ludicrous self-promotion and the media inquiries it generated caused an inexcusable distraction for the LAPD in an era when the time and resources of its officers are stretched thin each day. Creating this unnecessary burden for law enforcement was even more irresponsible given the entire episode was nothing more than a publicity stunt for Ms. Remini, cooked up with unemployed, anti-religious zealots who blog on the fringe of the Internet. Sadly, rather than move on with her life and career, Ms. Remini has aligned herself with a handful of untrustworthy, lunatic tabloid sources who obsessively harass the Church to advance their selfish agendas." ______________________ Leah Remini is "going clear" in a big way. A month after the actress broke away from the Church of Scientology, Remini has filed a missing person report in search of Shelly (Michele) Miscavige, the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to "omg! Insider" that a missing person's report has been filed seeking Shelly's whereabouts, but wouldn't say when the report was filed and who filed it. However, a source confirmed to "omg! Insider" that Remini was indeed the one behind it. [Related: Stars Who Left Scientology] Journalist Tony Ortega, a former editor of the Village Voice who broke the story on his blog Thursday, wrote that Shelly has not been seen in public for six years, and that he believes she is being held at a secret Scientology compound near Lake Arrowhead in San Bernardino County, California, just outside L.A. Remini's publicist had no comment. The Church of Scientology did not respond initially to "omg! Insider's" most recent request for comment, although it provided a statement about Shelly when the allegations surfaced last month. "Mrs. Miscavige has been working non-stop in the Church, as she always has," part of the page-long statement read. "She is not a public figure and prefers her privacy. Mrs. Miscavige has been seen and heard of since 2007. Any rumors to the contrary are false. Any person making such a false assertion is doing so recklessly because they do not know the facts or are lying because they wish ill for the Church, Mr. Miscavige and Mrs. Miscavige." The former "King of Queens" star, 43, has already had a lot to say about the subject. Last month, she explained just why she left the controversial group. "I believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct. That for me, that's what I'm about. It wouldn't matter what it was, simply because no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to." As Ortega reported, Remini began to question her beliefs after a tense exchange with David at the 2006 wedding of his famous follower Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. When Remini questioned why David was without his wife, who'd recently vanished, she was spurned by a church spokesman, who told her, "You don't have the f---ing rank to ask about Shelly.""
