A motorist who claims he was being chased has survived after crashing his car at high speed into a pharmacy in Brazil.

The unnamed 20-year-old was fortunate to drive through a glass window, avoiding brickwork a few feet to either side.

Police breathalyser tests showed he was not driving while under the influence of excessive alcohol.
The crash, which occurred at 4.30am in Chapeco, in the state of Santa Catarina, caused considerable damage inside the store.

Police said they were unaware of the involvement of a second vehicle in the incident.
